Tremont hot streak continues....

MALTA
No doubt about it. Ken Tremont Jr. is on a roll.

Tremont continued his amazing July hot streak Friday night, nailing down his second consecutive victory at Albany-Saratoga Speedway. Coupled with three straight wins at Devil's Bowl, Tremont had won five out of six races on the Champlain Valley Racing Association circuit heading into the final night of racing in the month of July.

Tremont needed some luck Friday night, as it looked like he was going to have to settle for second in the 35-lap 358 modified feature, as Don Ronca, who was looking for his first win of the season, appeared to have the field wired.

But a yellow flag with four laps left changed the complexion of the race, putting Tremont in position for the victory. With rain falling, Tremont used the restart to rocket around Ronca to extend his CVRA winning streak. “We were trying hard and just kept digging to get the lead as soon as we could,” said Tremont, who started 17th, after the race. “Unfortunately, it didn't work that way. Don ran a great race, and we were fortunate to get by him for the win.”

Ronca crossed the finish line second, his best finish at Albany-Saratoga since June 4, 2004, when he finished second to Scott Noel. But he was still somewhat disappointed.

“I thought I had it,” said Ronca after the race. “My car was good on the bottom, but I had to go high to get around the lapped cars. I would have rather stayed on the bottom, but that last caution killed us.”

Ronnie Johnson finished third, followed by Brett Hearn and Jeff Trombley. Completing the top 10 were Matt DeLorenzo, Jack Johnson, Matt Sheppard, Marc Johnson and Keith Flach.

Paul Dunham Sr. cruised to an easy win in the budget sports feature, and Art Kiser took the checkered flag in the Central New York Mini-Sprint feature, outrunning Jared Fink and Don Harvey Jr.

The sportsman, pro street stock and limited features were rained out, and will be run at the beginning of the Aug. 3 card, which will feature the CVRA.com 100 for modifieds.
