Double features next week

MALTA - Rain continued to plague Albany-Saratoga Speedway Friday night, wiping out the remainder of the racing card after qualifying races and the mini-stock feature had been run.

The rainout, the third in four weeks at the Malta track, sets up double features on Friday, June 9.

With rain imminent, promoter Bruce Richards ran the four-and six-cylinder mini-stocks together, with Chris McCarthy getting his first win of the season. Brett Osgood, driving a four-cylinder, finished second overall, trailing McCarthy by 1.827 seconds, and was first in his division.

McCarthy put on an incredible show in the 15-lap feature, as he started 18th in the 21-car field. But he took advantage of an early caution, and was running third after just five laps, and only needed seven laps to take the lead away from Osgood, who had started third.

Following McCarthy and Osgood across the finish line were Ken Hollenbeck, Mike Duclos and Travis Tromans.

Brett Hearn, Jack Johnson and Jimmy Davis won the 358 modified heats, while Mike Pinke, Scott Duell and Joe Santoro won the sportsman heats. Brian Gerrain won the sportsman B main, which was loaded with19 cars.

The rained out features will be on tap first when racing resumes on June 9. The regular June 9 card will feature the Spring Championships, with double points in all divisions. Racing will begin at 7 p.m.
